ON THE HIGHER HARMONICS OF THE RAYLEIGH-LAMB WAVES
Abstract
Rayleigh-Lamb wave propagation is studied in this paper with emphases to contribution of the third elastic constants to the process of higher harmonic generation. The linear theory of waves cannot capture details in the generation process because this theory cannot describe the long-range interactions among the particles in the material. The nonlinear analysis leads to interesting results such as the antisymmetric waves cannot propagate for all higher-order even harmonics, whereas all the higher-order odd harmonics allow the symmetric and antisymmetric motions, in complete agreement to the experimental results.
